Amy's Loving Lately: Local Libraries, Makerspaces, Fashion Competitions

Craft-related or not, here are a few things I've been loving in my personal life!

Phoenix Public Library
Just a shout-out for all public libraries! If you have not sought out your local branch I would encourage you to give it a browse sometime soon. I love placing holds on books so they'll be ready for me to pick up -- and I inevitably will browse the craft and DIY section when I go. I’ve grabbed books that range from punch needle crafting, to cross stitching, to making candles! Many libraries provide free crafts and have extensive children's programming as well.

Phoenix Forge Makerspace
In the spring of 2023, I began a membership at this downtown Phoenix facility that is full of tools, resources, and classes to help you explore and gain confidence in creating. A quick introduction session and I was all set to use their laser cutters, large vinyl cutter, and 3D printers. They also have a wood shop, a metal shop, sewing area, and jewelry benches! My membership was a perk of being a local community college student but this is a great resource for anyone who has some projects in mind that may need some specialized tools or guidance.

Next in Fashion
Since the popular Project Runway competition show launched, there have been a few different additions to the genre. At the beginning of March 2023, Netflix launched Season 2 of Next in Fashion — a design competition co-hosted by Tan France! The ten episodes work to whittle the number of designers down until there are three finalists who put together their own runway shows. I always find it inspiring to see other makers in their creative fields!
